BNBF Welsh Championships 2011
Sponsored by EQ Nutrition
For the 3rd qualifier of the year the BNBF team headed southwards once again and made their way to the Dolman Theatre in Newport for the Welsh Championships. This year’s championships drew a record Welsh entry of 55 competitors, a sure sign of the continued growth of the BNBF.
Judges for the day were BNBF Pro’s Vicky McCann, David Kaye, Nigel Davis and Mark Claxton. BNBF Pro Kerry Napier assumed the position of Head Judge for the day.
Competitors were eager and raring to go, so without further delay let battle commence!
Teens

The Teens, as with all the qualifiers so far, did not disappoint. The huge potential of these young lads was evident in this class of 6.
In 1st place was Dan Watkins. Dan was very mature for a teen with fully developed shoulders and upper body. His legs were a little behind his upper half but this discrepancy was not an issue and he won the class quite clearly. Dan’s posing was not great and should be worked on for the finals.
In the runner up position was Jamie DeRego who showed a good balance of condition and size. He could still however come in tighter to be more competitive at the finals. Jamie again needs to work on compulsory poses.
3rd was Luke Fussell. Luke has a lot of muscle and potential but needs to be harder. His evening routine was good and he used the music well to show his physique.
Also competing was Joshau Gibbins who has great potential and a fabulous natural shape - one to watch in the future. Antonio Montanino, good condition but posing was poor and lacked back width. David Risenborough who lacked confidence while on stage but I am sure will be better next outing.

In 1st place Harry Freeth. Harry was in good condition with a balanced physique but was a bit to pale and his posing needs some major work for the finals.
Runner up was Jake Griffith who had a balanced muscular physique but was not in condition on this occasion. He posed well and pushed for first even out of condition. Jake must be harder for the finals.
3rd was Ashley Morgan. Ashley was the tallest in the class with a good X frame he showed good potential but will just take him longer to fill out his big frame.

In 1st was Andrew Williams who has a chunky physique and was muscular and hard. Andy was in the best condition in the class especially in rear poses. He routine was good and accentuated his strong points well. His tan was also excellent.
Runner up was Frank Mensah who has great X shape with wide back and sweeping quads. However on this occasion his legs were too soft. Frank entertains well and his evening performance was good. Condition for Brits Frank.
3rd was Graham Miller who is a big man with a lot of muscle. Graham from the front is very good but lacks condition and detail in rear poses. Graham tends to look bored on stage which doesn’t help when in a tough competition. Again better posing would help Graham be more competitive.
Also competing was Marty Boardman.

1st was George ‘the razor’ Kerr. George brought great condition and presentation to this competition. His tan posing and routine were excellent winning him best presentation as well as the class. George is not big in structure but what he has he shows to his advantage.
2nd Peter Middleton. Peter has good chest, shoulders , arms and was in good condition. Peter looks better from the front than back and his compulsory posing is poor, however Peter is still improving.
3rd Jeff Lunn. Jeff looked a little depleted during the day which gave him a flatness especially in the pecs which was Peter’s strong area. Jeff did however fill out a little and was better in the evening.

1st Lee Roberts. Lee was in very good condition and was balanced with good muscle fullness. His tan was good and he was happy on stage. Lee’s weakness was that he couldn’t get his lats out in the symmetry poses and his lat spread poses were poor. This almost cost him the class.
Runner up was Andrew Yordamov who was shredded. H was detailed from every angle but was a little flat which was most evident in the side poses where he looked a little 2 dimensional. A little more fullness could have seen this result turned round. Andrews posing was excellent.
3rd was Ian Stevenson. Ian has a lot of muscle all over but needs to learn how to show it off properly in compulsory poses. Ian’s tan was a little pale and will need to be harder to be competitive at Britain level.
Also Competing
Ryan Bailey, Leroy Delve, Gregory Elliot, Jordan Evans, Leon Hicks, Syman Taw and Robert Taylor.
Guest Star Daz Cooper

Daz posed to the Welsh National anthem which I am sure stirred a few patriotic emotions in a few of the locals. He did some of his trademark dramatic posing and looked to be in a good place for competing in the Grand prix in a few weeks.

1st Lucy Oakman, Lucy was is very good condition and posed well. She was a standout winner in this class. Lucy needs to work on back width to give her more shape from front and rear. Good tone in her legs and glutes. Lucy’s tan was going green by the evening show, possible avoid deodorants before tanning or try a different tan.
Runner up was Emma Turton who like Lucy was in good condition. Emma was a little flat which looked a little shapeless during the day. Lucy did however look better in the evening and did an excellent T walk to steal 2nd place
3rd was Shaherah Jordan who was arguably the most shapely in the class, however she will need to get in much better condition to be competitive.
Also competing Sinead Martin, Lesley Mollan, Cate Rickards and Euphemia Senar
Mens Lightweight
Sponsored by Monster Gym
It was a close battle between Spencer Fuge and Simon Stevens battling to see who could win the lightweight title. Spencer had the chunkier physique with a lot of thick muscle but lacked the posing ability to present it well. Spencer struggles especially badly with his lat spreads. Simon was more shapely than Spencer and looked bigger across the shoulders and pecs, however he was a bit soft in the lower body. Simon poses well and his tan was very good. On this occasion Simon was beaten to 1st by Spencer Fuge and had to make do with 2nd. Simon in better condition could possibly turn this round. Both Simon and Spencer have work to do with to be competitive at the finals but will be in the mix.
Also competing Philip Brown and Kai Paul
Mens Middleweight
Sponsored By Fitness 101
The middleweight class top 3 were all potential winners with all 3 having great attributes. Tshala Kabala has a great natural shape with a particularly good lat spread, Carlos Baradas was the leanest in the class with very detailed musculature and Craig Chadwick who had a good balance of shape and condition. It was Craig who eventually took the 1st place trophy due to his balance, condition and muscle fullness, especially in the evening. Craig’s weakness is that there is a flatness in his pecs. Craig posed well especially in his rear poses and looked fuller at night although his abs looked a bit bloated. 2nd was given to Tshala Kabala who’s shapely physique is always impressive. Tshala’s legs are weak in comparison to his upper body and were too soft on this occasion to trouble the winner. In 3rd was Carlos Baradas who was in excellent condition but looked slightly narrow in comparison to the top 2. Although fuller than seen in the past needs to be a bit fuller to compliment his height he also needs to look at his tan as it looked a bit light and a yellow colour.
Also competing Toby Steed and Laurent Lebran
Mens Heavyweight
sponsored by Dave’s Gym
The heavyweight winner was Ken Mudoola who was in good condition and had big full muscles especially in his pecs, shoulders and arms. Ken has a good leg sweep and his legs were in good condition but needs to remember to tighten them in every pose. Ken is very shapely and aesthetic when standing relaxed but cannot get his lats out in his lat poses. This will cost him dearly at Britain level.
Runner up was Yoyo Butler. Yoyo was muscular and balanced with good condition, he looked a little flat during the day but fuller at night. Yoyo could be a little more dynamic on stage to draw the judges attention.
Taking 3rd was the hugely muscled Jon Andrews who had some crazy big body parts but just lacked the condition to be competitive on this occasion.
Also competing Omero Marchetti and Stuart Clatworthy
Miss Physique

1st was Nicola Joyce who was in the best condition seen in women’s physique for a long time. Nicola had very detailed shoulders and back with full pecs. Nicola was a clear winner also taking best presentation for her good posing, excellent tan and well put together routine. Constructive criticism would be that Nicola needs more back width and to work on her legs which were in good condition but lacked muscle size.
2nd was Eve Cook who always presents herself really well. Eve still has not reached the condition we have seen her achieve in past outings and I hope she can get there for the British Finals.
3rd was Carole Nicholls. Carole needs to get better conditioning to be competitive and also to smile on stage.
OVERALL

There was an argument for any one of the 3 weight class winners taking the overall title with each having different winning attributes. Steve Davies was very impressive from the side and his quads were the best in the line up which won him the best wheels. Craig Chadwick was the best from the back and was probably the most balanced. However Ken Mudoola’s impressive upper body and overall gave him the nod and with that narrowly won him the overall title on this occasion.
Overall Winner
Ken Mudoola
Best presentation Male
George Kerr
Best presentation Female
Nicola Joyce
Best Wheels
Steve Davies
