BNBF Scottish 2010 Report
Sponsored by Planet Bodybuild
It seems like only yesterday that the BNBF concluded its competitive season out in Washington D.C, following an impressively packed season and British Finals. Now six months on, a new season begins, and in traditional fashion is spearheaded by the ever popular Scottish Championships. For the 4th year now, the prestigious S.E.C.C in Glasgow would play host to these championships, a fitting tribute to the professionalism and continued success of the BNBF.
The judges for these championships were BNBF pro’s Davie Hannah, Barry Cunliffe and Dawn Roberts, accompanied by Olympia Masters champion, Eric Dowey, BNBF British Junior champion, Andrew Chappell and BNBF pro Kerry Napier assuming the mantle of Head Judge for the day. Let the competition commence!
Teens
Sponsored by Gracemount Gym
In first place was a delighted Michael Rodger. Michael showed great potential for someone so young, confidently showcasing impressive development from the front, in particular his chest, biceps and abdominals. On this outing Michael’s legs were slight in comparison to his upper body, yet this is typical of someone so young.
Taking 2nd place was Lewis Masson. Lewis has great shoulder width and certainly possesses impressive legs. In comparison to the winner, however, on this day Lewis was just too soft and should use this as a focus for future competitive outings.
Juniors

In 1st place was Mark Stevenson. Without doubt Mark was the most conditioned of the class and this proved to be decisive in taking the win. Although not the most heavily muscled of the class, Mark was dry, hard and detailed from head to toe with great overall balance. His leg detail was superb and ultimately was deserving of the Junior title.
Taking home 2nd place was Iain Law. Iain had good condition and overall a very balanced physique. His back was particularly well detailed and pushed Mark all the way for the Junior title.
In 3rd was Jamie Sands. Jamie was very muscular and was hard and full with a great chest and impressive quad sweep. Jamie was, however, considerably weaker from the back seemed to lose condition as the judging progressed.
Also competing; Joe Coffrey, Tony McCarte, Gerry McLaughlin, Ian Shaw, Ben Smith, Aiden Soltani and Rob Wardley.
Rounding off the top 4 was David Lang. The teen winner from 2008 returned with some added size and solid conditioning. David’s downfall today was his posing and should really focus on this aspect for future outings.

In first place was Mark Hickie. Mark was certainly the most conditioned of the class and this proved to be the deciding factor on the day. He carries a lot of rugged mass throughout his entire physique. Mark could use some more back width and pay more attention to refining his posing.
In 2nd was Tony Wilson. Tony was arguably the most shapely of the class with great shoulder and back width and impressive arms. Tony’s legs were indeed improved from last year yet still needs better conditioning if he is to challenge for the win.
Taking 3rd place was John Adams. A greatly improved physique, John took to the stage this year with better conditioning and added muscularity.
Rounding off the class was Kenny Bruce. Kenny was very muscular however on this occasion needed to be much more conditioned to challenge for top honours.

In 1st place was Jimmy Strang. Without doubt the most muscular and shapely of the class, Jimmy boasts impressive muscularity across his entire physique. Jimmy could have been a lot harder, however, and will no doubt be in the hunt for top honours at the Finals if he can improve on this.
In 2nd was George Kerr. On this day, George was slightly softer than his usual ‘razor’ self and when pitched against the muscularity of Jimmy Strang, had to settle for 2nd place. Nevertheless, great posing as ever from George, showcasing his impressive back width perfectly.
In 3rd was William Kirk. Very muscular with good condition and great leg detail. William was further improved from last year but still needs to work on refining his posing.
In 4th was Elliot Fraser. Elliot really seemed to enjoy his time on stage and lapped up the audience appreciation. Elliot was muscular and has a great chest but ultimately needs to be harder for future outings.
Also competing : Ian Sherrif
Figure

Taking home 1st place was Julia Rayner. By far the most conditioned of the class, Julia won this class convincingly. Great back and shoulder width coupled immaculate presentation ensured her the title.
In 2nd was Gemma Barnes. Gemma has a lovely structure for figure with a wide back, neat hips and shapely legs. Gemma was just too soft on this occasion but with a bit of work could do very well at the Finals.
In 3rd was Sandra Caldwell. An improved presentation from Sandra with better conditioning across her entire figure. On this day however, Sandra lacked the back width of fellow competitors and should aim to rectify this for future competitions.
Miss Physique

Taking home the title of Miss Scotland was an impressive Anna Millington. Anna has a fantastic upper body, with lovely capped and wide delts with impressive conditioning across her physique. Anna’s legs were slightly softer in comparison to her upper half and she should make this a priority for the finals as she is without doubt a strong contender for the British Title.
Guest Star – Mick Battersby
After a short interval, the audience waited in anticipation for the inaugural guest spot of the BNBF’s newest pro, Scotland’s own Mick Battersby. With a fan base of over 100 strong, one certainty was that Mick’s guest spot would go down a treat, and as expected it lived up to its billing. Centred on stage clothed in a kilt and now infamous ‘see you Jimmy’ hat, Mick wowed the audience with his crazy arms and muscular thickness reserved only for those belonging to the pro ranks. Well done Mick, you’re truly loved by the Scottish audience. Good luck in your pro debut at the British Grand Prix later this year.

In 1st place was a shocked Ryan Beattie. Ryan won this class with the best overall balance of size, shape and symmetry. Ryan could have still been harder and must look to improve on his condition to be competitive at the finals.
Taking 2nd place was Jean-Paul Malador. Great conditioning from Jean-Paul and very detailed from head to toe. Jean-Paul was very balanced but on this occasion was a little slight compared to the winner.
In 3rd was John O’neil. John had a very hard upper body and although slight, had a nicely put together physique. John’s legs could have been a little harder and he needs to work on his posing for future competitions.
In 4th was Derek Wann. Derek has good balance and carried an impressive amount of muscle. Derek’s posing let him down badly, especially during pre-judging and this hindered his chances of placing higher.
Also competing: Gordon Bird, Martin Campbell, Paul Gardner, David Lewis, Wyn Llyod, Greg McLellan, Graeme Ross, Craig Stewart and Gregg Thomson
Lightweight Mr
Sponsored by Powerhouse Gym
In 1st place was a delighted Stuart McCulloch. After numerous runner-up finishes, the Scottish title finally came to Stuart. This was the most muscular Stuart has been, most notably with improvements in his shoulder and back density. Stuart’s condition was good on the day but marginally down on the rock hard conditioning we’ve seen him in before. Make this a priority for the finals Stuart.
In 2nd was Steve Joyner. A great shape from Steve, but just to soft on this occasion to challenge the winner. Improvements in condition should see Steve become a formidable lightweight indeed.
Rounding off the top 3 was Chris Flanagan. An improved package from Chris, with improved condition and muscularity compared to last year.
Middleweight Mr

In 1st place was David Kaye
Without doubt the standout physique of the day. David showcased incredible conditioning – rock hard, full and bone dry. His back was unbelievably detailed with striations etched deeply from head to toe. As ever his standout bodypart were his legs, huge, full and sweeping with deep separations, hanging hamstrings, shredded glutes and cuts flashing all over. This in turn won him the ‘Best Wheels’ award. In addition, his presentation of this incredible package was impeccable. Without question a phenomenal performance and superb improvements from David.
In 2nd was Richard Connelly. This was a tough outing for Richard when positioned next to David, yet he conducted himself on stage well and seemed to enjoy his time up there. Richard was more muscular than in the past but still needs to work on his conditioning in order to be more competitive.
Heavyweight Mr
Sponsored by Future Fitness
In 1st was Allan Barbour. A vastly improved physique from Allan with an impressive upper body, particularly back width and thickness. Allan will still need to work on his leg development and condition of he is to be competitive at Britain level.
In 2nd was Kenny Taylor. Kenny has big sweeping quads but they lacked detail. In all, Kenny just needs to be harder in order to challenge for top honours in this class.
In 3rd was Lee Page. Lee has a good amount of muscle but lacked condition on the day. Lee should make his leg training a priority as he was weaker in this area.
Best Presentation Male : Martin Campbell
Best Presentation Female : Anna Millington
‘Best Wheels’ Award : David Kaye
Overall Mr
To no one’s surprise, the Overall Title of Mr Scotland and invite to the NANBF Universe went to David Kaye by unanimous decision. A phenomenal performance from David and now surely a hot tip for pro status out in the Caymans.
